SUMMARY Technological advances in recent years have favoured access to the Internet, and with it a new form of interaction between technological instruments and people, changing our style of life. The emergence of the Internet in our society uncovered a world where it was possible to quickly and constantly spread information to a large number of people, and it sparked great interest and concern about the contents distributed on the Internet. In turn, the introduction of the Internet in people’s daily life showed that it was not only linked to information, but would also directly affect their lifestyle and strengthen their active role in managing their lives. And this has been the case, both in terms of healthcare, time management, relationships, paperwork, etc., and in the use of the Internet. Thus, people begin to be active in creating web contents, commenting on them, co-creating them, and re-distributing them…. They do so in a quick and constant way and with an increasingly far reach, even in a distributed way from different devices and located in the cloud.
The “Internet user” is a widely used expression. In many case, this expression is specified in the analysis and report of devices people have introduced in their daily lives. However, technology is nothing by itself, if we do not take into account the people who use it. Thus, the key element is the use. A clear example of this fact is the well-known expression “digital natives” to refer to people born today when Internet is a normalized tool. But having been born into this social context does not explain how people use the technology in their daily lives, or the effect it has on their habits and lifestyle; it only tells us about the potentialities of the environment.
The psychological perspective of the PSiNET group emphasizes the lifestyle and quality of life of people who use technology, in order to design interventions that lead to the acquisition of healthy habits.
